Kitataisetsu

Kitataisetsu is located on Hokkaido, below Mt. Tengu, and is a former lift-served ski area where the lifts haven’t been operating for several years. Today, it’s not a typical ski resort for groomed runs, but primarily a snow-rich area used for cat skiing.

What makes the place interesting is the snow. Hokkaido is known for cold, light powder, and Kitataisetsu has long had a reputation for being able to accumulate a lot of untouched snow when storms roll through. Since the area no longer has regular lift operations, the cat-skiing setup is a way to access the terrain without having to hike all the way up yourself.

In addition to cat skiing, there’s also cross-country skiing in the area. Kitataisetsu is therefore more of a destination for powder, snow experiences, and winter activities than a classic resort with a trail map, lift lines, and groomed descents.
