Mayrhofen in Zillertal is a cozy, genuine ski resort, where city life continues despite a massive tourist tour from Holland and England. If you are a skier, this place may be the best resort, especially on the glacier. Finding untouched skiing is not that difficult because they Most tourists prefer staying on the slopes.
I myself spent the 1999/2000 season there as ski instructor and polar bear in the city's largest afterskibar. A different but fun job.Mayrhofen is perfect for those who want to make a first season because the village is quite big and you get to know the other seasons quickly. Your new ski companions are not Mayrhofen the optimum choice because most people go snowboarding. But why not go both and?

Have been to Mayrhofen all season and am very pleased. Many good smaller resorts around and real alp feeling, a lot of beer and half-timbered houses, etc.

The ride is not as steep as in France where the Alps are younger but that is enough.

The Hintertux glacier 1 hour from Mayrhofen is powerful but watch out for cracks on offpiste skiing.

Other small donuts are Landersbach and Hoch-Fugen.

very cozy and fun. It was the first time I was in the Alps and I can say that Mayrhofen made me return to the Alps again but now to Chamonix.

Mayrhofen is crazy

Here I can not find much to complain about. I worked as a ski instructor there last year and am heading this year again.

A big advantage is that the whole valley of Zillertal is full of smaller ski resorts that can be reached if you do not like the congestion in Mayrhofen (during high season). The Hintertux Glacier (3200 meters) is also close by. Ski passes can be bought for the whole valley with or without the glacier. Mayrhofen has two lifts, of which Penken is the most popular. Loosening is extraordinary in almost the entire valley.
 
The village is only 600 meters, which means that you have to take a cab lift to and from the lift systems. This is located in the center of the village.

Mayrhofen has been a Swedish map a few years ago, but now it is full of Dutch and English.

A big advantage with Austria and Tyrol is the culture, and it has inhabited everything to keep.

After shine, it's also full speed on the music dunks for the level wherever you're trying to hide. Myself I'm pretty short and do not get into Icebar where people basically stand on each other and drink Dutch Grolsch!
