Hakuba Sanosaka is located in the southern part of the Hakuba Valley, near Lake Aoki, and is one of the valley’s quieter ski areas. This isn’t a big freeride destination—rather, it’s a smaller, more laid-back resort focused on groomed runs, families, and skiers who want a slower pace than the larger Hakuba areas.
The ski area has 11 runs, 5 lifts, and a vertical drop of about 1,378 feet. The terrain clearly caters to beginners and intermediate skiers, with wide groomers and fairly gentle pitches. That makes Sanosaka a solid choice for getting started, working on technique, or skiing with mixed-ability groups where not everyone is chasing steep lines and deep powder.
In terms of snow, Sanosaka does get its share of Hakuba’s storms, but its location is lower and less alpine than places like Happo-One or Hakuba 47. When it’s dumping, you can find soft snow off the sides of the groomers, but off-piste and tree skiing aren’t really the main draw here. The real highlight is a relaxed ski day with great views of Lake Aoki and the mountains around Hakuba.
