Togari

Togari Onsen is located in Nagano, near Nozawa Onsen and Iiyama, and is a smaller ski resort with a distinct local feel. This isn’t about massive hotel complexes or international powder hype—it’s about straightforward Japanese skiing, onsen hot springs, and great snow when storms from the Sea of Japan push into the area.

The ski area is relatively compact but varied, with wide groomers for beginners and intermediate skiers, a few steeper sections, and tree-lined terrain where the snow can stay nice after a fresh dump. The vertical drop is about 1,640 feet, and the skiing is best suited for families, mixed-ability groups, and skiers who want a calmer day than the bigger Nagano resorts.

Togari also has a clear winter-village vibe, with hot springs, simple lodging, and easy access to the better-known Nozawa Onsen. If you’re chasing maximum vertical or big-mountain freeriding, it’s not the top pick—but as a low-key resort with everyday Japanese charm, onsen, and a chance at soft snow, Togari can be a great option.
