Very nice ski resort but many possibilities and levels of difficulty. There is most everything here for those who have never stood on a pair of skis to those who have skied all their lives.
There are nice restaurants, a little Ica shop, etc. and everything at reasonable prices. Can highly recommend this ski resort and once in place you absolutely cannot miss eating at the wilderness nest which is in the middle of one of the larger slopes.

Really good and family-friendly facility with plenty of pistes for all kinds of skiing. Also good for young skiers who can learn balance by going up the hill on a roller conveyor and then practicing on a low slope. We alpinists who have a little 2-year-old got more out of the trip than we thought!

Totally ok family resort, the whole with fantastic cross-country trails keeps you busy. The slopes are limited. Feels like a lot of transport and quite flat, but if you know that, it's perfectly fine.

The review refers to v12 2023. In the group (7 people) there is a skier with a racing background, 3 average skiers, 2 children/beginners and 3 cross-country skiers. The apartment that was rented was in the center of the village. In the middle of the system with approx. 100m walk to the hill and ICA. 70 sqm with sauna. 3 bedrooms, 2 of which had a bunk bed with a small double bed. A bit tight but it worked well. Review written after 5 days on site with 2 ski days left.

After some bad experiences with Skistar, we chose to go to Idre. Run by a foundation that reinvests the surplus into the facility and it seems to be making a difference. Not the same rich feeling as at Skistar's facilities. Free parking at the lifts and ski stadium. Nice staff at the rental and it was possible to change the equipment during the stay without paying extra. It was possible to eat your fill on the hill for under 100 sek/person if you can have grilled sandwiches or waffles for lunch (Gillestugan which is located in the middle of Västbacken). In addition to cross country and slalom, the children had a go at sledding with dogs. Affordable and nice.

Lift system/queue: 5/5. No queues this week.
The Mountain: 3/5. The drop height may not be the best, but it will do. By way of comparison, Åre gets a rating of 5 and Vemdalen a rating of 4.
Skiing for beginners/children: 4/5. Many green slopes that the children like.
Skiing advanced skier: 3/5 where Vemdalsskalet gets 4/5. Would like some more long red slopes with even gradient.
Off-piste: 2/5. Does not include the snow quality in the calculation. In comparison, Vemdalsskalet gets 3/5, Åre 4/5 and Riksgränsen 5/5.
Length year: 5/5. Nice tracks that are well maintained. Available in both light and heavy.
Rental: 4/5. Went through most of the skis for advanced skiers but they were a bit too mushy. Got the opportunity to test some more advanced skis through the sports shop and ski tester day. Very friendly and flexible staff.

Addendum: Very low ski pressure. The slopes were skiable all day long. There were hardly any dams during the whole day. We are used to broken pistes as early as 11 o'clock at other facilities, but then we have previously skied v9-v11.

The lift system is very sensitive to wind as there are mostly only chairlifts (gondola) or button lifts. When a chairlift closes, you are therefore referred to a button lift, which drastically affects capacity. The result is long lift queues as soon as the wind blows.

Sweden's best facility. Much shorter queues and more and better slopes than the Sälen facilities. Real mountain and one of the most snow-safe destinations.
Everyone says child-friendly, of course it is, but also one of the few Swedish facilities that offers challenging skiing for the more experienced skiers. That's why we often come back.
This summer, new gondola lifts will be built, which will further increase capacity.
Large investment in summer activities with lots of trails (bike + hiking) and large activity center. New paddle courts and pools. There will be more summer visits for us in the future.

Great place if you have kids. Always well-sloping slopes and plenty to choose from

The lift system is undersized. You really spend all day in the lift queue. Can not warn enough about this place. Everything else is super good, but you are here after all to ski.

Giant lift queues so there are not many rides in one day, but you spend all your time queuing.
