Ski resorts in Sweden
What do you think about Åre?

I agree with Fredrik, is regular in Åre in the spring for 15 years and has experienced a development against the negative. The biggest threat was that in the past, snowy capitals from Stureplan or another "rich " neighborhood invaded Åre and definitely bought the place. And the locals accepted it. Our cabin owner is no longer a cabin owner, he owned all the alpine lodges just west of the cable car's valley station. Now he has sold everyone and in addition, a larger house has been built east of the cottage almost directly below the cabinet cable.
Now he has only left the guesthouse downstairs at the square and it works fine, the main thing is that you have access to the sauna. =)

And the Holiday Club is a sign that the village is becoming more and more jippopropped with commercial activities. Certainly, to some extent, it is good, but the village is disbanded by "foreigners " is sad to see. Skiing has not just counteracted this, but makes use of radical price increases every year on ski passes. Certainly, these increases go to future lift projects, but I do not think everything is financed by this. High-quality tourists are still attracting despite these high lift ticket prices.

Restaurant visits are expensive regardless of the alpine in Sweden or the Alps. However, Åre is clearly the most expensive in the country, understandably though.

To make it even worse, SJ's night train to Åre has doubled in price compared to 10 years ago. We always took the train from Alvesta to Åre then, now it's more profitable to take the car, unfortunately. The train was a cannon, one was rested on Sunday morning until usually a sunny morning at Åresjön. Should SJ or another operator get us on a train again, they have to think about what people do otherwise, take the car. And then that's the point of collectively reverting. It's cheaper to go by train (and bus) to help people jump the cars and thus avoid exposing the already harsh environment and the climate to other unnecessary stresses.

Depending on the high zone, you can avoid slashed slopes in the low zone. If the high zone is closed a sports or easter day (for Stockholm) it is driven down in the low zone, crowded with people and puckles big as a meter is formed sometimes in worse cases. So a tip, avoid going on school holidays (more expensive accommodation) and skiing in the middle or end of March for the best skiing conditions weather and snow depths.

However, we do not depend on adding ski holidays at these times a year anymore, please. We are going to Åre week 12 and then I do not expect any direct lift queues apart from any holiday in clear and nice weather. Are extra curious about what the new lifts will be performing.

But not faan matches the depth of the snow from the website. Max 5 cm outside the piste and maybe 20 in the piste. Lots of stones and pure shine. High zone closed. Tragic. Good shopping but expensive prices.

Were in Åre in early January 2013 and became concerned about a lot. The fact that the high zone was turned off, I had counted on, but the handling of staff was tragic. Should pay a lift card for the day and just when I paid I was informed that the elevator would open an hour later.
At one of the restaurants in Björnen where I went with my son I ordered gulasch, I thought, but got some crispy broth with microscopic pieces of meat. In addition, the two slices served industrial bread. When I asked for more bread to get saturated, I was informed that they had good sandwiches I could buy.
That since many pistes were ice-cold, mixed with ruthless tears that went scary near, in front of or behind my ten-year-old son was not good.
Certainly there were many nice slopes, but in the Bear where we went in the morning the lift queens could take the breath out of one.
But of course it was great to go skiing. But more than that it was not.
Rather go to the Alps where the food is better, the weather is better and the skiing is better. (understatement) Three small details I know are probably so important in a ski holiday.

Must only communicate to all travelers and interested in the snow depth stated here really does not match .... unfortunately. In the terrain, it is disregarding drifting no more than about 20 cm of snow yesterday and probably decreasing. The slopes will last a few weeks but it is cool and downhill if you keep grazing 6th and 8th ..
Greetings

Something has happened to this village. When I was here in the 90's it was a pretty cozy little place that offered that little extra other places were missing. Everybody was here to go skiing and talk pillows on aftershine. Today it has grown into a mega-commercial jippo for celebrities and rich Norwegians with influences mainly from American cities but also the Alps. Prices have pushed the height of food, pleasure and housing and that the attitude has changed to silly and arrogant. Nightlife has taken over more of the skiing and it is terribly sad to have a police car on the square even and constantly to keep the scheme. Big chains take over as Intersport and Stadium are positive for keeping prices on skis and clothes down, but the feeling is totally gone. If you go to Hanson or Åre Skidsport, they know what they are talking about and you are offered a lot of personal service if you buy equipment. At Stadium, it is only selling, selling, selling as applicable. As a ski resort, it is still high class when open and not faint or windy. The weather can be really bad periodically. Lifting capacity has increased, but there are still great queues in the VM8, VM6 and cab lifts. The disadvantage of Åre is that there are only a few backs that are really good, the rest is quite mediocre and a little half-sad. Everyone tends to gather in one place and ride the same slopes resulting in broken slopes. There is clearly gold grain in Åre and it offers a width like no other ski resort but you have to pay a high price and it has become very popular.

Åre is without doubt the best ski resort in Sweden.

Many complain that all the slopes are creepy and uphill, which I agree with about them is quite often but definitely not all backs. You should be out in good time if you want to go those slopes that quickly get ice-cold. It is clear that it will be a little different when you live close and can go when it fits best but I guarantee there are good bays, you only have to know that they are, because there are 113 backs. Then there are other great advantages with Åre that there are plenty of restaurants both in the hill and in the village, shops, you can go there, much else to do if you do not want to ski.

+ high zone
+ Large and varied ski area
+ Many restaurants on the slopes
+ There is much else to do if you do not want to go skiing
+ Åre snow park / Bräcke is usually really cruel!
+ You can go there
+ Many shops in the village
+ Highest fall height in Sweden
+ Many chairlifts

- Pretty expensive, even the food is expensive
-Many backs are quickly picked up
-If the high zone is closed
-Some parts of the system become overpopulated

Go to Åre and enjoy Sweden's best and most varied skiing. ;)

What can be said about the ears that have not already been said. No other ski resort can offer the width that Åre does. Now, answers will be answered soon by everyone who has their own favorite place. But if you look at this objectively, some places may have a better tip in some areas, but you will not find everything you do in Åre. Piste, offpiste, park, hook, high zone, low zone, hiking m, m. I have visited Åre the first time as a twelve-year-old at some time in the early 80's and was completely sold. Cabin and the thousand meter that were pretty new then. Did not think I'd been in Sweden. Now the circle is over and I have Åre as a home and I'm looking for a break as soon as I have time with my 12-year-old boy. The whole family finds its severity in the slopes and beyond. Åre owns all ski resorts in our elongated country if you are looking at skiing and holiday experience for all.

Can add that I live outside Åre.
You can not live there, tourists everywhere :-)

I stick out my chin and say Åre owns all ski resorts in Sweden. Now everyone who has their own favorite place to scream straight out comes. But if I clarify and say that Åre offers a width like most places in sweden can only be desired then I think most people agree. There are places with better tips in some areas but Åre offers the piste, offpiste, the hook, park, high zone, low zone, etc. in the same package.

I visited Åre the first time as 12 years old in the early 80's and did not believe my eyes.
The cable car and the thousands of meters that were almost new then opened for a skiing in the high alpine terrain that I had not seen before (talk about getting alp vibes).
Now that Åre has become my home, the circle is closed. Now I'm looking for my guy who is 12 years old after a good off-piste as often as we can or whip manchester before it gets upset.

If you are going to draw disadvantages, it is the price trend of real estate and div.
As a resident, you usually find their accommodation outside Åre if you are not former neighbor to Fredde in the sun side.

Overall, I dare to say that there is something for all the pistons, offpist freaks, jibbers, butterers, hasare + everyone else who loves all what skiing is.

Awesome ski resort! Have something for everyone!

Seems that the feeling that the slopes are caught up soon disappeared in the last two three years. The slopes have been broadened and, in general, improved the area.

Being touristy is simply a natural consequence of being a tourist resort. If you do not want to spend tourists on holiday, it's probably better to go to Flen or something.

You have got your many different restaurants and sometimes you may think that the focus on wine and champagne is a bit big. That's the big beer and the obstler I am in association with skiing anyway.

My favorite in the hill is Hyddan. A clockwise place to start the afterskin. Good food, nice staff and there are both Stövel and Obstler!

It is possible to get away fairly cheap during the latter part of the season. But you can have ice cream and order a little late.

Go to Åre simply!

Åre is Åre. Has been there since 3 years old, on both family holidays and with friends. Certainly a ski resort that should be visited.

Good variation on the slopes, there is almost something for everyone.
The range of food in both backs and outside.
Friendly staff.
Good atmosphere in the village and in the slopes.
Good after skiing and nightlife.

Expensive prices at most.
Sönderåkta backs in the afternoon.
The slopes become easily icy when blown.
A damn mass of people to and from.
