The lifting system is quite sensitive to winds. All large chair lifts are mostly closed. You forget to get to the top. It's not fun to pay dearly for lift cards and go with button lifts on blue slopes. It was a waste of time and money for me.

Best place in Sweden that I have visited (not where in the Riksgränsen)

Based on experience from about ten trips to Åre since the late 80s. Not later than 17: 2019.

+ Fall height and size and variation of the ski system. In class with a slightly poorer ski system in the Alps.
+ International stamp, good restaurants and nightlife.
+ Train directly into the village

- Congestion during high season. Don't go your Easter or sports holiday if you don't like crowding. Or go to Duved where it is a bit calmer.
- Wind-sensitive system. When the high zone is closed, it does not feel worth the money on long roads.
- Transport routes.
- Expensive.

Wind-sensitive system and very rarely all lifts are open. Also crowded!

- The top often turned off
- Snow shortage
- Often bad weather

Åre offers a lot. Great skiing, both fast food restaurants and fine dining. Compared to other Swedish ski resorts, Åre clearly has most shopping and shops. Åre's town resembles an alp town, much more city-like. A very cozy ski resort according to me simply. If I were to recommend an accommodation I would probably choose Tott Hotel. Very good location and very close to an anchor lift that you can take and get into the lift system. Really nice!!

Åre is perhaps Sweden's most well-known ski resort. We have been to Åre once and we were impressed with how many different slopes it was and how the different areas had a very individual feel.
 
We were in Åre with our two children and my mother and sister who are a teenager. We stayed in an apartment in Åre town.
 
Due to Åre's different areas, Åre fits most types of skiers. Our group consisted of a variety of skaters from my youngest son who had just started skiing for my sister who competes in slalom. Everyone found slopes that suited their level well and after a week it felt like we could have stayed another week!
 
We were in Åre in the middle of February and most of the slopes were nice. There were some icy slopes especially those that were adjacent to the apartment area. Unfortunately, the lift was up to the top shut down due to wind most days but we managed to get up a few times and it was very special up there. I have not experienced anything like this at any other Swedish ski resort.
 
Åre is very unique in Sweden as there are so many hills connected to each other. There are other ski resorts that have many different slopes eg. Vemdalen and Sälen but they are divided into different facilities. As in Sälen, there are other activities than just skiing in Åre.
 
Åre is a bit more expensive than some of Skistar's other facilities, eg. Vemdalen. Both ski pass and accommodation. There is a large selection of different restaurants with different price levels from simple but good hamburger restaurants to luxury restaurants. We ate at Buustamons Fjällgård and we can really recommend it if you want to enjoy the holiday a little bit.


A strong advantage for us is that Åre is close to an international airport. My relatives live in the UK and they often follow ski holidays. They can fly directly from London to Östersund.


Right now our children are still young and I think that the slightly smaller ski resorts, for example. Björnrike in Vemdalen and Lindvallen in Sälen are the best suited but I look forward to when they are a little older because I think Åre is suitable for families with older children or teenagers or adults who are experienced skiers best.
 
Åre is a place where most people can find something that fits. What I lack is the soft factor Vemdalen has.

- Some of the lifts were off certain days
-Large. Does not feel as cozy as the spirit of the ski resorts

Think that Åre has most of what you can expect from a ski resort in Sweden. There are guaranteed other places that can offer more deep snow, better children's slopes or more advanced slopes. But if you are going to look at the whole with the range of restaurants, skiing transports to Åre etc then we think it feels perfect. If you are there in high season and feel that there are too many people, go to Duved / Tegefjäll. Cruel slopes but with fewer skiers.

I have been in Åre now for a whole week. Before, I have been to almost every other mountain in Sweden. I recommend never going here as it is terribly bad. They close lifts for no reason and the slopes are not challenging. I will never return I can promise
